Sperm Survival Test (SST)

A Sperm Survival Test is a QC test performed in order to investigate if a medium is suitable for human sperm.

In short, a donor semen sample is prepared with a density gradient and exposed to the medium for a defined period of time. 10 minutes after exposure motility is measured, and remeasured after 4h or 24h (depending on the product). These results are compared to each other, at least 80% of spermatozoa must remain motile.
